Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes

By: Zoey Greenwald

We're all so young
With bright eyes
and living

But those bright eyes
Can never be ready enough

With everything
We see
All the pain and violence
In this world

You'd think
You'd think
You'd think

We'd learn something.

Like we're
Held captive
To watch the goodness that's always been in our hearts
Erased from others’

And while we may be talking
We are truly

These bright eyes
Are scarred with the shadows
Of what they may become.

Just getting ready
Just beginning
To live
To love
To figure out this world

Everyone tells us the world is scary place
And we always ignore it
We always think
We can change it.

Because we're not them,
We're us.
